I read in
the paper yesterday that the people of North Western Sydney have greater
obesity problems than the rest of NSW. I really needed to know that! What was
most extraordinary was the claim that this was because of the lack of public
transport in the area. Maybe I’m wrong but I would have thought that riding in
a bus or train was as exercise free as sitting in the family car. Maybe the
short walk to the station or bus stop would make a small difference but enough
to change a whole community? Surely not! If people want to lose weight then
they must exercise more and eat less bad foods, I don’t think trains and busses
come into this equation.
Funny isn’t it how our society seems to want to make
everything into a political exercise. Rather than seek to find how we may
change to solve the problem we always look to blame the Government, the system
or the authorities. Often our problems are our own and the solutions come from
within rather than next door. The only exception to this is with our salvation.
No matter what we do or where we look within we will never find the answer to
our sin problem. For this solution we must look elsewhere, to the Lord Jesus
Christ for the answer and solution. What amazes me is how humanity, while
looking elsewhere in every other situation for the solution looks mostly to
themselves to solve the sin problem. We just get it so wrong!
In love, Alan
