It was
Jesus who said “the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few”. There are
two reasons for the lack of workers; they don’t want to work or they are
already too busy.
“Too busy” is a funny term because what is too busy for some
is a walk in the park for others.
“Work” itself is a funny term because what is
work for some is play for others. It all comes down to how we approach the
“work” of ministry.
Ministry is what we do when we obey the Lord. In most
cases, ministry affects other people because it either meets their needs or
gives them fellowship. Ministry can build up a sweat but not necessarily be
derided as work. Ministry is a joy because it is a chance to labour in
fellowship with the Lord, under His direction and within His resource. When we
minister we see things happen and miracles occur. Spectators watch others
minister, they get entertained but those ministering get strengthened and
matured. Spectators can see the faults and mistakes, ministers experience them
and learn. Spectators see the results but ministers experience them.
Today we
have our Ministry Fair and our aim is to match our willing labourers with needy
ministries. I encourage each person to view their life, choose to do things
with eternal significance and make a date with the Lord in His sweat shop.
In
love, Alan
